Creating site-less clinical trials with the Montreal Heart Institute

July 2022 – Present

The Business Challenge

Confirming someone’s identity and protecting sensitive data is critical in the medical industry. For this reason, we partnered with the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) to solve some of the issues they are facing in today’s digital landscape.

The Solution: Creating Consent

Since June 2022, Kelvin Zero has been actively working with the Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) to integrate SoLID into their hybrid and digital research programs. The result will be a fully connected identity and data encryption platform bringing new digital features to their research program. Among these features will be the digital onboarding of patients, consent management across decentralized networks, and cross-organizational data analysis and computation.

Project Name

Our work with the MHI is connected to a $21.7M research program funded in part by the “Fonds d’accélération des collaborations en santé” (FACS) program of the Québec government. The objective of this project is to accelerate and facilitate research around cardiovascular, inflammatory, cancer, infectious, dementia, and cognitive diseases.

Project Highlights

Validating a patient’s identity digitally is critical to conducting successful digital and hybrid research programs. This is why we are deploying a unique identity encryption module at the MHI which will assign unique identifiers to their patients and use digital signatures to manage traceable patient access controls.

Capturing, tracing, and revoking consent is another major part of clinical trials. Consent can also be especially difficult to execute in a digital environment. To solve this issue, we are using SoLID to track and manage patient consent by linking patient identifiers to traceable digital transactions posted on a blockchain network.

SoLID goes beyond identity and consent and can be used to validate any data object via posted digital signatures. We are putting this into action by using the SoLID data platform to enable homomorphic data encryption system and zero-knowledge, collaborative database analysis for the MHI and their clinical research network.
